Study Options in Australia and New Zealand

A-Level Results Day 2020

Australian and New Zealand university applications still open for full degree and short-term study options

Hello everyone,

As we all prepare for A-level results this week we wanted to remind you there is still time for your students to apply to universities in Australia and New Zealand for the next academic intake. The university year in Australia and New Zealand begins in late February, rather than in September.

Study Options is still accepting applications for Australian and New Zealand degrees starting in February 2021, including quota degrees such as medicine, engineering and veterinary science.

Please visit our website for more details on current degree options in Australia and New Zealand and how to apply.

If any of your students are thinking of taking some time out before committing to university, they may be interested in undertaking a short-term study experience at a university in Australia or New Zealand via our Tester Semester programme. More details here.

To get individual advice for a student, please contact Study Options and speak to a student advisor.

Study Options is a completely free application and advice service for students and schools. We are funded by our university partners in Australia and New Zealand to provide support to students through the application processes on their behalf and are responsible for lodging applications from students in the UK and Ireland. We are also able to assist international students who have studied at UK or Irish schools.

We can advise on a student’s eligibility for a degree, or what degree options they have in Australia or New Zealand, as well as any other aspect of the application process.

Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9am through to 6pm. The telephone number is 0117 911 5610 or you can email us on mail@studyoptions.com (please include your name and contact details on your email message).

Are you thinking of applying to study medicine or dentistry?

Are you thinking of applying to study medicine or dentistry?

Most UK universities require applicants to sit an admissions test in addition to their other entry requirements. The UCAT (previously known as the UKCAT) is required by the majority of UK universities and must be sat in the summer of 2019 by students who want to apply to member universities for entry in 2020.

What is UCAT?
The UCAT is a mandatory admissions test for the majority of UK medical and dental schools. Students sit the test during the summer before they submit their UCAS application in October.

Which Uni's require the UCAT?
30 UK universities now require applicants to sit the UCAT as part of their mandatory admissions process. UCAT scores are then considered alongside academic grades and other relevant entry criteria.

Key Dates for 2019
Registration opens in early May 2019 and testing takes place over the summer between 1st July - 2nd October 2019.

Where can students sit the test?
The test is sat at a Pearson VUE registered test centre (similar to where students would sit their driving theory test).

What do students need to do NOW?

Don't worry if this is the first you've heard of the UCAT, there's still plenty of time for students to register and sit the test this summer before applying to university to study Medicine or Dentistry.

Please visit the UCAT website now for full details - Click here

Do you want to study Medicine or Dentistry?

For students who may be thinking of applying to study medicine or dentistry. Most UK universities require applicants to sit an admissions test in addition to their other entry requirements.

The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) is required by the majority of University Medical and Dental schools in the UK and must be sat in the summer of 2017 by candidates who want to apply to member universities for entry in 2018 (or deferred entry in 2019).

What is the UKCAT?
The UKCAT helps universities to make more informed choices from amongst the many highly-qualified applicants to medical and dental programmes.

It is used in conjunction with other admissions processes such as the UCAS application and academic qualifications.

The UKCAT is a computer-based test. It does not contain any curriculum or science content but instead focuses on exploring the cognitive powers of candidates and other attributes considered to be valuable for health care professionals.
Who should sit the test?
A full list of universities / courses that require the UKCAT is available on our website.

Students sit the test during the summer before they submit their UCAS application in October.
Where can candidates sit the test?
The test is delivered via computer in partnership with Pearson VUE at over 150 UK authorised test centres and in around 100 countries worldwide.

Candidates are encouraged to register and book early to ensure they get a test slot at their chosen test centre.
