First Intuition start Progression Week rolling with a fantastic workshop about routes into finance

Many thanks to

Ben Bullman, Chelsey Madgwick (former Long Road student), and Katie Scott - current Apprentice, for delivering this morning's workshop on Routes into Accountancy in M3.

Incidentally, if you are interested in Accountancy, but couldn't make it this morning, please bear in mind that there is another Accountancy talk on Friday, with Cantab (12.00 - 1.00, in M3).

Cambridge Water’s Young Innovators’ Panel

We have an exciting opportunity for Year 11 and Year 12 pupils to get involved in the running of one of the largest businesses in the region. This is the first year of Cambridge Water’s Young Innovators’ Panel, which brings the views of young adults into their decision making and future planning.

Last year, we successfully ran the Young Innovators’ Panel in the South Staffs Water region and following this success, are repeating the process in the Cambridge region. (Cambridge Water became part of South Staffs Water in 2014) - watch the following video to find out more about the Young Innovators’ Panel and the opportunity available to your students. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCO_Ylo1TzY

We’re now looking to recruit 20 individuals who live in the Cambridge Water region to join the Young Innovators’ Panel.

How will your students benefit?
They will have real influence on the decisions made by senior management as well as:

  • see inside the workings of a major business - a unique work experience opportunity which will allow their voices to be heard at a senior executive level
  • meet other like-minded students / sixth formers from around the region
  • get a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship applications
  • receive £100 for taking part.

What’s involved?
The Young Innovators’ Panel will attend board meetings on two occasions, Thursday 11 July and Friday 13 September at Storey’s Field Centre, Eddington Avenue, Cambridge CB3 1AA. The meetings will start at 9am, so applicants need to be able to get to Eddington for this time. We will reimburse individuals for all travel expenses to board meetings. The meetings will be all day and will include a mix of briefings from senior executives about the business and the challenges it faces. There will also be facilitated problem solving exercises.

The Young Innovators’ Panel will be given real issues to think about that Cambridge Water needs to address in the long term and will work in teams to come up with solutions. Between the two board meetings, members will prepare for team presentations at the second meeting, where they will present their ideas to senior directors and managers of Cambridge Water.

Who should apply?
We would expect candidates to be:

  • Thinking about a career in a business setting; perhaps as an engineer, a product developer, in a financial, customer service or marketing role, or even would-be entrepreneurs who plan to run their own business one day.
  • Someone who enjoys getting their point across; taking an active part in class discussions, debates and problem solving.
  • a good team player; a good listener as well as a good talker!

We are looking for candidates from all social backgrounds; it’s really is an opportunity for anyone who is interested. We’re hoping that you will encourage pupils to apply, including those who might otherwise think ‘this is not for me’.

Supporting your school or college
Blue Marble Research is a specialist research and engagement agency and we will be running this initiative. Cambridge Water will be publicising the work of the panel to local media and we would like your school/college/sixth form to be part of this exciting venture. We are contacting a limited number of schools and colleges in the region, so would encourage you to publicise this initiative to your Year 11 and/or Year 12 students so they have the opportunity to get involved.

How to apply

You can apply by following this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Q3T7HCR

The application form for candidates is quick and easy and should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. The closing date for applications is 14 June 2019. See attached overview of questions for your reference.
