Careers in Accountancy & Finance Many organisations and individuals need help managing their finances and this is where accountants and finance managers come in. They help their clients to monitor their finances, plan for the future and comply with various legal regulations. Accountants work at all levels of organisations.

Where could an accounting qualification take you?

Progress to Partner in practice or CFO in industry The progression opportunities in an accounting career are fairly clear and achievable if you are prepared to work hard. If you enjoy working in accounting you have the opportunity to set yourself goals for the levels you want to reach, no matter whether you choose practice or industry. In practice, you start as a junior associate and progress to senior and manager roles as you gain experience and further qualifications. Following senior manager, you can move up to director or partner of a firm. With industry, you start as an accounts assistant, then progress to financial analyst, financial accountant, finance manager, before becoming head of finance or CFO of a company.

First Intuition - Free 2 day Accountancy Academy Course in the summer

Dear Students

 

First Intuition (based in Cambridge) have a free two-day Accountancy Academy which aims to help year 11-13 students understand what an accountant does and what the career options are in this field. The dates for this year are the 10^th and 11^th of July.

 

Please see attached leaflet covering the basic details. We’d really love to see you there. The rough agenda will cover:

 

• Introduction to accountancy
• Understanding various roles within finance and what the role of an accountant is within the working world
• Routes to qualification including apprenticeships
• Interview skills
• CV surgery
• How to apply for roles in finance including writing cover letters
• Communication and office skills
• Practical exercises with an external business leader setting a task for students to work on in groups and present.

The AAT access course will take place on the W/C 7th of August 2017 Hills Road, Cambridge, consisting of 4 days training and an exam at just £100. After completion of this 5-day course with First Intuition, our specialist recruitment consultants will be placing you in 2 weeks’ work experience with some of our highest profile companies on W/C 14th August 2017. What is it an AAT access course? The AAT Accounting Qualification is highly respected and gives students all the technical skills they need to embark on a career in finance. The AAT Access course will cover four units: 1)     Accounting in a professional environment 2)     Creating business documents 3)     Essential accounting procedures 4)     Mathematics for accounting Including business scenarios and games. Work Experience After completing the full 5 days of the course you will be placed into 2 weeks’ work experience with an employer based in Cambridge or within 10 miles of Cambridge by one of our specialist Finance consultants. This will give you an opportunity to gain vital skills and experience within a finance team and a greater understanding and appreciation of a career in accountancy, helping to make key decisions about your future.
