This is a reminder that we are soon approaching the
deadline for the Cambridge Water Young Innovators’ Panel. The
application deadline is Friday 14 June 2019
As a recap, this is a great opportunity for your Year 11 and
12 students to:
- Get involved is one of the region’s largest businesses
- Take part in a two-day event in which panellists work in teams to produce a presentation they pitch to a senior board of judges – including the Managing Director of Cambridge Water!
- Get a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship application
- Get paid £100 as a thank you for their participation

Last year, we successfully ran the Young Innovators’ Panel in the
South Staffs Water region and following this success, are repeating the process
in the Cambridge region. (Cambridge Water became part of South Staffs Water in

How will your students benefit?

- see inside the workings of a major business - a unique work experience opportunity which will allow their voices to be heard at a senior executive level
- meet other like-minded students / sixth formers from around the region
- get a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship applications
- receive £100 for taking part.
What’s involved?
The Young Innovators’ Panel will attend board meetings on two occasions, Thursday 11 July and Friday 13 September at Storey’s Field Centre, Eddington Avenue, Cambridge CB3 1AA. The meetings will start at 9am, so applicants need to be able to get to Eddington for this time. We will reimburse individuals for all travel expenses to board meetings. The meetings will be all day and will include a mix of briefings from senior executives about the business and the challenges it faces. There will also be facilitated problem solving exercises.

think about that Cambridge Water needs to address in the long term and will
work in teams to come up with solutions. Between the two board meetings,
members will prepare for team presentations at the second meeting, where they
will present their ideas to senior directors and managers of Cambridge Water.

- Thinking about a career in a business setting; perhaps as an engineer, a product developer, in a financial, customer service or marketing role, or even would-be entrepreneurs who plan to run their own business one day.
- Someone who enjoys getting their point across; taking an active part in class discussions, debates and problem solving.
- a good team player; a good listener as well as a good talker!
We are looking for candidates from all social
backgrounds; it’s really is an opportunity for anyone who is
interested. We’re hoping that you will encourage pupils to apply, including
those who might otherwise think ‘this is not for me’.

Cambridge Water will be publicising the work of the panel to local media and we would like your school/college/sixth form to be part of this exciting venture. We are contacting a limited number of schools and colleges in the region, so would encourage you to publicise this initiative to your Year 11 and/or Year 12 students so they have the opportunity to get involved.
