REF: LGCINT14-103

  • Location:

  • £salary & qualification (BTEC Level 4)

Our site based in Fordham, near Newmarket employs about 250 people, of whom many are young scientists embarking on their first job in the scientific industry.

Our analytical science can take two forms – looking for a needle in a haystack or measuring a given needle as precisely as possible. Within the sport testing side of the business, samples are screened for around 2000 banned substances, with no prior knowledge whether the banned substances are there or not. In the drug development side of the business, samples are analysed where a potential new drug is being investigated. We require knowledge of chemistry, biology and biochemistry to understand the requirements of our customers and to interpret the results of our analysis.

We are looking for people to join our scientist training programme. This is a permanent position which will allow successful candidates to develop a wide range of laboratory skills via work experience, further education and “in house” training. For 1 day a week, external training will be provided in order to help the candidate work towards obtaining an apprenticeship (HNC). For the remaining 4 days each week, successful candidates will work in the laboratories, alongside our scientists. Initially, internal training will be provided on all our procedures and quality systems that apply to the role.

For the first year the successful candidates will work within our technician and sample management groups (6 months in each) to learn about the business and processes. Subsequently the opportunity will be available to move into one of our operations departments to assist our scientists in the analysis of samples and interpretation of data using a number of different chemical and biological techniques.
