Archaeology Opportunity for students this summer

I'm getting in touch regarding an opportunity for people to volunteer on an archaeological excavation at the National Trust's Wimpole Hall Estate in south Cambridgeshire in August and September 2018.

Oxford Archaeology East will be excavating the site of a late Iron Age and Roman settlement at 'Lamp Hill' (south of the current overflow car park) ahead of the development of a new visitor centre and car park for the Wimpole Estate.

The minimum age for volunteering on this site is 16 years old and so would be suitable for your sixth form students. Volunteers will need to need to make a commitment for the full working week (5 days, except the week of the August bank holiday), and will be offered a place for one week during the five-week excavation (Monday 13th August - Friday 14th September 2018). Volunteer hours on site will be 10am - 3pm. There will be less physical roles such as processing artefacts and assisting with outreach activities, as well as excavation.

We have a separate application form specifically for this excavation for people to register their interest in taking part: https://bit.ly/2KLInEl The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 27th July 2018. For young people aged 16 or 17, we also have a supplementary form (attached file) for parents/guardians to sign to say that they give permission for applicants to attend.

Please get in touch if you have any further questions and I hope that some of your students might be able to join us at Wimpole Hall this summer.

Best wishes,
