The college welcomed 23 organisations from a broad range
of disciplines yesterday, all championing the potential for progression from
Long Road via Apprenticeships. Within these organisations, we had
companies in the STEM sector such as Medimune and the LGC Group,
whilst Thales and Arcus Global ensured that
students learned of opportunities in the IT sector. Engineering, another local
hot spot, was covered by Carters Construction with able support from the
Institute of Engineering and Technology. Bidwells (Estate
Agency), Lloyds Bank and First Intuition (Accountancy training),
presented opportunities that might appeal to those with their minds set upon
Business opportunities. The Army and Navy alerted students
to a broad range of opportunities as far reaching as health care and
administration (not just combat!), whilst the presence of the College of
West Anglia, the College of Animal Welfare and CRC all helped
us to fulfil our requirement to ensure that students are aware of a broad range
of progression routes. Finally, Ridgeons, Envigo, PA Consulting
and the Local Authority’s Enablement Service promoted awareness of more
opportunities in the local region. Feedback from students and exhibitors
alike was very positive, whilst those teachers who brought their classes to the
event were very pleased that it had helped students to link their course with
potential future destinations (some even sorted out work experience on the
spot!)
