Chef Apprentice based in the Cambridge area


Job description- Apprentice Commis Chef

 

 A great opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join a vibrant, respected fresh food company in Cambridge. You will gain hands-on experience from the best- whilst gaining a Level 2 qualification as a Commis Chef.

Overall purpose of the job:

 

You will be expected to prepare and present food to the highest standards as directed by the Head Chef / Sous Chef -  developing knowledge of menu planning and developing skills and techniques through this hands on experience in conjunction with attendance at college.

 

Additionally, to maintain cleanliness and the required food and health & safety standards of kitchen work, again learning and developing understanding of the rules and guidelines as provided centrally.  Ensuring that you are correctly and neatly attired at all times and in line with Health & Safety requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintain a good knowledge of menus
  • Take notes on how food is to be prepared according to Head Chef’s directions and ensure that preparation standards are upheld
  • Monitor stockholding of perishable items delegated, and rotate stock effectively and in line with Company guidelines
  • Assist with stock takes as requested
  • Ensure administration concerning stock transferal or requisition is completed accurately
  • Carry out all cleaning duties allocated in accordance with the unit cleaning schedule- complying with hygiene and health and safety procedures
  • To carry out all reasonable tasks expected by management

  • Communicate effectively with all colleagues
  • Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Gain knowledge and skills through observation of others at work
  • Assist and help colleagues where required and as instructed by the senior kitchen team
Deal with all colleagues, contractors and customers in contact with in a polite and helpful manner, providing assistance where necessary.
