Creating the Future - VIrtual Creative Zone with ARU - Live Event

Virtual Creative Zone

*Initially developed by the Creating the Future Partnership with support from ARU, UCP, Skills Service, Festival Bridge, NEACO

Tuesday 19th Nov 2019 11.00am - 12.00pm

Live Broadcast and Q&A
Join us for short, structured, informal conversations with 4 Creative Industry professionall talking about their current work, how they got to this point in their career, the great bits and the challenges they face in their work plus answers to questions sent in live from school students.

 Professionals guests: -

·         Chris Wood, International glass artist and maker who lives in Ely. Her medium is light. She uses a range of high and low-tech optical materials to harness patterns of light that suggest ephemeral glimpsed moments in the natural world. Her commissions include works for Fendi Fashion House, Great Ormond Street Hospital, a Scandinavian cruise ship and many more. Wood has recently completed her biggest commission to date for the National Convention and Exhibition Centre in Taipei.

·         Adam Clarke – aka ‘Wizard Keen’ International Minecraft expert. Adam says it’s nice to be a wizard! For a lot of people, I am Wizard Keen. Often, with the people I know in Minecraft, we call each other by our avatar names not their real names. We like to stay in character. I know a Stampy, Squishy, Dragnoz, Squid and Squidoodley. Minecraft is an amazing game that stimulates your creativity as you build whatever you can imagine, but it’s also great for learning about how to be a good citizen and mining positive connections

·        Miranda Stearn, Head of Learning UCM She leads the Learning Department at the Fitzwilliam Museum, supporting a team dedicated to delivering a creative, inclusive and impactful learning service and enabling more people to be engaged and excited throughout their lives by the Fitzwilliam and other University of Cambridge Museum collections. She is passionate about heritage and culture and how we can get more involved.

·         Jon Cockley - co-founder of Handsome Frank illustration agency. Handsome Frank is a UK based illustration agency representing some of the finest contemporary artists on the planet. Founded in 2010 by cousins Jon & Tom, like all the best ideas it started with a conversation in the pub. They now represent 30 illustrators, spread across five continents and have worked with some of the biggest brands and agencies in the world.
The broadcast will end with a discussion bringing speakers together to talk about what skills and qualities young people might need to develop for careers in this sector.

We encourage schools to think about questions they may like to put to our professionals

 Technical requirements:

·         a good internet connection

·         a device capable of playing back a live video stream

·         example; a laptop and speakers with access to Facebook, that connects via a HDMI cable to a projector/TV screen in a classroom

·         Once you sign up to work with us, we are able to answer more technical question in advance of the broadcast

How to log on:

·         We will supply you with the necessary web log in details once you register interest.

·         please note this will not be playing any content until we go live on the day

·         link will also have a ‘comments’ section where people can ask questions

Participation is free!

Suitable for Yr10 and above and aimed at any pupils with an interest in finding out more about Creative Industry Careers from people who already work in this field.

Next steps

Financial Support for University

Just a quick email to make sure that any students who have applied to study with Anglia Ruskin University in 2012 are aware that they can apply for their scholarships and fee waivers. We know that any student has concerns about juggling their finances, so please do apply.

The Anglia Ruskin National Scholarship Programme is worth a total of £6,800 in the form of fee waivers over 3 years and it’s available to eligible students with a household income below £25,000.

The Anglia Ruskin Fee Waiver Scheme is worth up to £1500 per year of study and could reduce the cost of annual tuition fees for students with household incomes of below £35,000

As you can see it really is worth students looking into this further by going to the ARU website www.anglia.ac.uk/nsp and making an application.
