Clearing with Brighton

Everyone in the Outreach Team here at Brighton are particularly concerned at reports that suggest downgrading is impacting more on students from backgrounds already under-represented in higher education. This is an issue which is close to all our hearts.

There has been a lot of change for all of us to deal with in 2020.  However, the flexible, inclusive and personalised way we make offers at Brighton remains the same. We value a range of qualifications and non-academic achievements and we consider every application individually. We are here for you and your students and will do all we can to support them in progressing in Higher Education this autumn. We know some students will not have got the results they hoped for, or feel they deserve or reflect their potential, but this does not mean that this is the end to their journey.

Our dedicated team are available talk to via our clearing hotline 01273 644000 until 6pm tonight. Our opening hours from tomorrow onwards can be found here.

If your students are appealing their grades they on the basis of their mocks result

·       We can make them an offer now.

·       The offer will be confirmed after the outcome of the appeal is known and pending completion of our standard admissions checks.

If you appealing your students’ results on their behalf

·       We can also make them an offer now.

·       The offer will be confirmed after the outcome of the appeal is known and pending completion of our standard admissions checks.

·       Pending the appeal, we will make an offer on the basis of either allocated grades or their mock results.

What happens after we make an offer?

1.      Your student should refer themselves to Brighton via UCAS track

2.      We will hold the place until the outcome of the appeal is known

3.      If the appeal is successful we will confirm the UCAS is updated

If your student is not currently in the UCAS system we can still make them an offer

1.      Your student should call us

2.      We will make them an offer send them our confirmation of clearing offer form to complete

3.      We will hold the place until the outcome of the appeal is known

4.      If the appeal is successful we will confirm place

For students who are applying through clearing or holding offers, students can join our staff and students at our online Q&A to ask questions about applying and accepting your Clearing offer, and to learn how we'll support them to belong at Brighton. The Careers Department recently received this message:

Students may also wish to find out more about the range of scholarships available to them, and the webpage for them to visit is here: www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/microsites/be_here.html"

Help for those trying to find a course via Clearing

We have just been alerted to a new site that can help in the search for appropriate courses in Clearing.
This has been put together by bestCourse4me.com and they call it their Clearing Course Finder. Students choose their A level subjects and grades, and the subject they want to study from a drop-down menu The Course Finder then shows a list of suggested universities to approach first for a clearing place, based on previously accepted A-level grades for their chosen courses.

Don't forget, that courses come and go on Clearing throughout this period, right up until 25th October. With this sort of information at your fingertips you can help your students make the right choice at the right university.
