The Big Bang Digital Event  Big Bang Digital 2020 – science, engineering & Covid-19, the free online event for young people aged 11+ on Tuesday 14 July. Hosted by TV & Radio Science Presenter, Podcaster & YouTuber Greg Foot students can take part in: Short, inspiring sessions looking at all aspects of STEM in a pandemic Live polling, Q&A sessions with real life engineers and scientists Big Bang Explore with activities to do during the day and a chance to win prizes Meeting NHS frontline staff and asking the experts coronavirus questions Big Bang Digital can be included as part of home learning or streamed in-school and is a secure environment with safeguarding measures in place. AIM- Greenligh for Girls

AIM have been working with Greenlight for girls since 2015 to demonstrate the link between STEM to everything around us and to inspire the future generation of female STEM leaders. To keep young women aged 11-18yrs engaged in STEM g4g have designed a broadcast series Science you had me at hello!

Come along to our Apprentice Open Evening LGC welcomes you to our Apprentice Open Evening, taking place on Thursday 27th April 2017 at our site in Fordham, Cambridgeshire. Each session will take between an hour and an hour and a half and will include a presentation about the company, the apprenticeship and a tour of our facilities. You will also have the opportunity to speak to current apprentices and our educational provider. LGC - Job Opportunity for a Sample Management Technician

LGC provides a wide variety of analytical testing services including drug surveillance screening for animal sports regulatory authorities and human supplement manufacturers.

 

We currently have a full-time vacancy for a Technician within our Sample Management team.

Duties will include sample receipt and dispensing samples for testing, chemical reagent preparation and administrative tasks including computerised record keeping.

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible people who are able to work as a team with good attention to detail and an organised approach to work

 

You’ll have a minimum of 5 GCSEs, with at least 2 in science subjects, and will ideally have some experience of a scientific environment. 

The post is full-time with standard hours of work, 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday though LGC operates a flexible working policy.

Interested in the plague?!!

The Darwin Lecture series started in 1986 and consists of eight public lectures which aim to present complex ideas in an easy to understand manner. This year the multidisciplinary series will examine plagues, set in the broad context of a disease or calamity that causes high morbidity or mortality with lasting impact on populations. The speakers will delve into plagues of the past and present, and will consider future threats to all populations that inhabit the earth.

The lectures will be held every Friday in Lent term (17 January to 7 March) at Lady Mitchell Hall, Sidgwick Site.  Entrance is from 16.30, with lectures to start at 17.30. Anglia Ruskin University Open Days for Years 12 and 13

Please note that the Careers Department has just received information regarding Anglia Ruskin University HE Information Days and Taster Days. This is one of the most popular University choices for Long Road Sixth Form students so we thought we’d highlight it for you. These special days are available for years 12 and 13 and give insight into University life and courses.

HE Information Days are ideal for Year 12 students who are thinking about their future. A mixture of talks and activities are provided which will both inform you about HE opportunities, whilst inspiring you to think constructively about how to achieve your goals. Typically, these run from 10am – 3pm and lunch is provided.

Subject Specific Taster Days are a great way for level 3 students to find out more about how a specific subject is taught at University level. The External Liaison Team is happy to discuss your requirements in detail and can develop Subject Specific Tater activities which support your syllabus.

World Radiography Day, 2008!

Please note that November 6th 2008 is World Radiography Day and we have special guests in college to promote this area of work. We have been told that there is a large demand for people interested in this line of work, and this is your chance to find out if it could be something you would like to do in the future.
