Description: A series of hands-on activities and games bringing new perspectives to sustainability. Hosted by the Global Sustainability Institute as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2015

Enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and piece of cake while you move between activities:

Sensing energy by Sarah Royston, Association for the Conservation of Energy. Through a series of sensory challenges (from taste-tests to sound quizzes), this exhibit invites you to think about how we understand energy in our homes using all five of our senses.

Money makes the world go round by Tim Hughes, University of Cambridge. An interactive game exploring the effects of the monetary system on inequality and the environment.

What right have you to decide? by Rosie Robison, Global Sustainability Institute. Take on the role of a doctor, politician or environmentalist and work to persuade others to your point of view regarding our right to use resources.

Is this landscape natural? by Tim Mitchell, artist. Undertake a visual literacy exercise with Tim’s beautiful landscape photographs, how carefully are you looking?

This event is run in conjunction with the ‘Sustainability: New Questions, New Answers’ collection of writing and artwork. Each activity is linked to a written piece from the collection, which will be available online in the run up to the event. Check back here for more details.

It is open to everyone, and we are particularly keen for teenagers and their families to come along.

Do you want to train as a maths teacher?

Taster Day for any students who are interested in becoming

Secondary Maths teachers.

 

The day will take place from 9am – 3:30pm on Wednesday 18 November. During the day, there will be workshops held at the University’s Bedford campus, as well as visits to local schools.

 

The Taster Day is for our new Undergraduate Secondary Education with Mathematics course. This is a three year course which enables students to achieve Qualified Teacher Status whilst also developing their mathematics knowledge. This could be preferable to the more traditional route of a three-year course, followed by a one-year PGCE. There are also generous bursaries offered to students following a mathematics teaching programme.

New Health Careers website  Help people find the right career in health    Dear Student Health Education England has brought together the very best health careers information on to the new Health Careers website. It provides information on some of the 350 roles available in health along with real-life stories and videos of real staff. There is also a course finder which lists more than 1,000 courses leading to a career in health.      New features  The website has lots of new features including a compare roles tool which allows you to compare bite-size information of up to three roles.
