Summer 2020 Opportunities for current Y2 students thinking about one year work placements

There are currently several exciting placements available within Cambridge Consultants, who have been named a Sunday Times top 100 company to work for. They help the world’s leading companies deliver breakthrough products, acting as a research and development function to solve the problems that no one else can. 

 

YINI is delighted to be working with Cambridge Consultants again this year.

 

These are of particular importance to Year 2 students, particularly those considering engineering, applied science or a closely related discipline when leaving Long Road' in the summer of 2020.

 

Placement overview:

 

• The successful student will have the opportunity to work on real life projects for real clients, building their skills and knowledge whilst making a real contribution to the work of the company. During their gap year they will also work in a small team with other technology scholars to deliver a multidisciplinary project, which they’ll then present to the rest of the company at the end of their gap year.
• They will have lots of support during their time at the company, including an experienced mentor. In addition, the experience you will gain at the company could count towards membership of professional institutions – for example, the IET and IMechE.

 

Who’s it for? Year 13 students who if successful, would be available to start their paid YINI placement in September 2020 (the role is for up to 12 months, before the student goes to university)

Who will this effect?

Any student in Year 13 or S6 (in Scotland) interested in gaining a YINI placement that will start this September 2018 and finish next August 2019.

What will students need to do?

Students should register for YINI online via our website on or before the 31^st May 2018.

Opportunities for paid Work Experience for a year

The Year in Industry (YINI) is a scheme run by EDT, a charitable trust who encourage young people into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Careers.

YINI provide paid placements for students post A levels for 9-12 months and guarantees they are set on a fast track to their future career. At this crucial stage of their education they have many decisions to make about going to University or pursuing other options, taking some time out to gain valuable work experience will help with these important decisions.

We have placements for students interested in all areas of Engineering, Science, Technology and Business.

Students earn a competitive salary and around 25% gain sponsorship from their company.

GAP Year Opportunities for Year 13 students

Many students decide that they do not want to go straight on to University or work on completion of the A levels (or equivalent). A gap year is often the way forward for those who are making up their mind about the future and the more productively that year is spent, the more appealing students will be to future organisations they want to work with.

The Year in Industry Engineering Development Trust is recognised across the UK as one of the countries leading organisations for helping young people to find worthwhile Gap Year Placements. It's been doing it for over 20 years(!) and they have been in touch with Long Road College to let us know about a number of exciting opportunities they now have with employers such as Shell, Rolls Royce and QinetiQ to name a few. These places will be in high demand, so the earlier you apply the better. The link below gives you more information, but in the first instance, here are some of the criteria you must match up to:

• You must be a Year 13 / Final year A level (or equivalent) student
  • Highly individual, proactive students with a thirst for knowledge and an appetite for
  discovery.
  • With very good grades at AS level or equivalent and high predicted grades at A2 level
  or equivalent
