Marshall Aerospace - Apprenticeship Opportunities

Marshall Aerospace has opened applications for their apprenticeship programme. This year anyone who wishes to apply will do so through www.aeroacademy.co.uk.
            Level 2 – Aeronautical semi-skilled fitters
            Level 3 – aeronautical fitters
            Level 3 – design engineers
            Level 3 – Technical Support Engineers
There’s a new level 2 apprenticeship for which the minimum requirements are 5 GCSEs at  A-D which must include Maths, English and Science. The craft level 3 apprenticeships require 5 GCSEs at A-C)which must include Maths, English and Science and applicants for the Engineering Design Apprenticeships need 5 GCSEs A-B which must include Maths, English and Science. This is an excellent apprenticeship programme with a top Cambridge company and it would be fantastic to see local students secure these jobs.

Open Events at Marshall Aerospace for anyone interested in entering their industry

• Saturday 26^th November (0930, 1200, 1430) Careers in Aerospace Event – This is a 2 hour event supported by Marshall and our higher education partners. This event is planned to be held in our civil aviation hangar and will involve guest industry speakers to give an insight into their working life and the opportunities that their career has provided them with. We will also have representation from our partner universities along with various activities and insights into the industry. This is one not to miss.
   
• Saturday 10^th December (1000) Open Event – This is a 2 hour event where we will present to prospective students details about the industry, Marshall Aerospace and the courses we offer that will help students into aerospace industry careers in a wide variety of different roles. We will also include a tour around some of our aircraft maintenance facilities.  We may also have representation from our partner universities.
   
• Thursday 15^th December (1000) Open Event – This is a 2 hour event where we will present to prospective students details about the industry, Marshall Aerospace and the courses we offer that will help students into aerospace industry careers in a wide variety of different roles. We will also include a tour around some of our aircraft maintenance facilities.  We may also have representation from our partner universities.
   
• Saturday 7^th January (1000) Open Event – This is a 2 hour event where we will present to prospective students details about the industry, Marshall Aerospace and the courses we offer that will help students into aerospace industry careers in a wide variety of different roles. We will also include a tour around some of our aircraft maintenance facilities.

 

These events are aimed primarily at students and parents. The main event on 26^th November will have:

• aircraft to get close to
• interactive exercises
• industry experts
• a recruitment company (to advise students on the huge number of careers available - real jobs with multiple global customers, and of course may help them to select the appropriate course or pathway to an industry career)
• partner HE providers
   
  So an excellent and unique event in Europe’s largest privately owned aircraft hangar.

MARSHALL ENGINEERING TRAINEESHIP PROGRAMME, STARTS 8 JULY 2015

For any students who are interested in a future career in Engineering, this 9 week programme is a mixture of training and work experience placement with prestigious Marshall Group in Cambridge and work skills and career coaching classroom workshops at Cambridge Regional College. Marshall Traineeships in Engineering

Marshall Traineeships (click for more information) : For students who feel they would like to consider vocation education and training in engineering.  

Cambridge Regional College have teamed up with Marshall Aerospace and Defense Group to deliver a 12-week Traineeship programme that focuses on providing candidates with essential skills, valuable work experience in the engineering sector and an opportunity to progress onto an Apprenticeship with Marshall on completion.

What will you learn?
First three weeks involves classroom-based learning at Cambridge Regional College which includes English, Math’s, First Aid, Health & Safety, Heart Start and employability training.

The remaining weeks are spent at the Marshall Aerospace and Defense Group site, near Cambridge Airport, and will include hand skills and classroom-based learning to culminate in the industry-recognised EASA/CAA qualification. You will also spend a number of weeks on work experience in an Engineering field of your choice.

How many places are there?
There are 20 places available on this Traineeship programme.

When does it start?
18 May 2015

How long does it take?
12 weeks

Who is eligible?
You must be 19-24 years old; ready to move into an Apprenticeship or employment on completion of the Traineeship; want to work in the Engineering sector.

Are there any fees?
No

Do I get paid on the work experience?
No but Marshall will provide you with a bus pass during your time with them and you will be able to use the College buses when at CRC.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES with Marshalls Aerospace

Marshall Aerospace employs approximately 1500 people at its office and hangar complex at Cambridge Airport, where maintenance, modification and design facilities are available for many different types of military and civil aircraft.

The Government funded Advanced Apprenticeship places we offer each year have provided exciting opportunities, and a variety of careers, for many people who have become design engineers or airframe, electrical/avionics or mechanical manufacturing fitters. Successful graduates of our Foundation Degree, which operates in partnership with Kingston University, will be well placed in the future to find a role within the aerospace industry.

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP

FOUNDATION DEGREE IN AIRCRAFT, MAINTENANCE, REPAIR & OVERHAUL
Details of this 2 or 3 year course, delivered at Cambridge Airport, can be found at www.aeroacademy.co.uk. Successful graduates of the foundation degree may go on to ‘top-up’ to a full B.Sc at Kingston University. Applications should be made through www.ucas.co.uk.

Open Evening at Marshall Aerospace, Cambridge Airport on Thursday 23rd April or Thursday 30th April 2009

Marshall Aerospace is now introducing a new higher education pathway available to students in our area. Aero Academy, a division of Marshall Aerospace of Cambridge Ltd., has entered into a new partnership with Kingston University in order to provide a new Foundation Degree course from October 2009.
Aero Academy, available locally at Cambridge Airport, is both practical and academic in content, which leads to a Foundation Degree and the potential of a successful career in the MRO (aircraft maintenance and repair) or related industries. It can also enable students to achieve an honours degree through an additional top-up year of full time study through flexible part time study over a longer period. The design of the programme draws on the Marshall tradition of high quality apprentice training and then Kingston University's expertise in developing vocationally relevant higher education.

Successful graduates of the course will be well placed to join the aerospace workforce and find a role within the industry where there is a shortage of skilled fitters, technicians and engineers. Graduates from our programme will have a wide range of career opportunities and be able to specialize, in their final year, in the disciplines of mechanical, electrical or design. We will also provide coaching and support in regard to job applications with aircraft maintenance organisations such as Marshall Aerospace and Inflite Engineering as well as Aircraft operators. Others may decide to use the transferable skills offered by Foundation Degree to progress to further professional qualifications.

The course covers a range of subjects required for a job in the industry, such as theory of flight, fault finding and repair techniques in both mechanical and electrical work, plus developing essential handskills from working metal and operating machinery. During the course, supervised work experience will be provided in conjunction with project assignments.

Marshall Aerospace is currently seeking candidates for the two year programme with a predicted 140 points, ideally including A-level mathematics plus a science subject. For those candidates who do not meet their predicted grades in these subjects a one-year introductory programme leading onto the two year course is available. Applicants will require a minimum of 80 points. Both the two and three year programme will be delivered entirely at Marshall Aerospace in Cambridge, with learning and hands-on experience taking place in classroom and workshop environments. pathways are available for those students wishing to progress on to an honours degree.
